My dad called me this morning and asked me to look up how much the Alaskan Cruise would cost for him and his friends to go on….My husband and I took this cruise for our 2 year anniversary a couple of years ago and we LOVED it.
The cruise itself is very affordable, in September (the time we went) it was $600+ for 10 days. We loved that they departed from Seattle and that it was a different type of vacation rather than your traditional tropical vacation. … There were some extra charges on the cruise that some first time cruisers may not be aware of…
- 10 dollar gratuity per person/per day.
- Soda is 30-35 dollars (water, juice, tea and coffee are all available for passengers convenience, however if you would like to drink soda, you have to pay 30-35 dollars for a mug you can fill up with soda at certain locations)
- Most food places are included in the cruise packaging, however there are certain restaurants that are additional charges (but still not too expensive 15 dollars + per person)
- Ice cream shops are additional fees
- Excursions can add up. Once the cruise ship docks, you have a full day to explore each port. On the cruise ship they offer different excursions, each excursion is priced differently. The fun ones are of course the most expensive…
The upside to cruises definitely outweighs the bad though. There is so much to do and so much to see. The cruise lines do a great job having nonstop activities for their passengers. Depending on what cruise ship you go on, there are casinos, rock walls, libraries, game centers, theaters, you name it… My husband and I liked playing board games and watching the shows in the evening. There wasn’t any moment where we even questioned being bored.
So Overall??? Cruises aren’t that expensive for all that you get to do. However if you chose to go on extravagant excursions then yes, your vacation can be pricey. I’m happy we went on our Alaska Cruise and can’t wait to go on our next cruise in January!
Here's some pictures from our Alaska Cruise in 2007..
Leaving Seattle.... I must say, out of all the places we've visited, I still <3 Seattle THE MOST!

They have the cutest fruit and vegetable displays on the ship!

Our first stop was in Ketchikan. The excursion we decided to go on was go carting through the mountains...one of our best experiences ever!

The next stop was through Tracy Arm Fjord. I must say the glaciers looked a lot dirtier then in brochures lol....

When we arrived in Juneau Alaska we decided to go canoeing in the poaring rain through glaciers to get to a beautiful waterfall... again, an amazing experience!
I was the most excited for our dog sledding experience in Skagway, Alaska. I invisioned riding a sled through mounds and mounds of snow, but we actually took a trail that was similar to one in washington :)... either way, it was a fun and memorable experience!

Our last stop was in Victoria BC. I have been to Victoria many times, but it's such a beautiful place I'm glad we got to go again!
